Insomnia and sleep apnea are directly related, and the combination makes it very difficult to get a good night's sleep. Insomnia is the inability to sleep consistently, and sleep apnea is the medical term for a lack of oxygen while sleeping. The body tries to make up for the lack of oxygen by breathing heavily through the nose. This causes a loud snore, making it difficult for others near by to sleep, too!
Insomnia sleep apnea is actually a very straightforward ailment to treat. By simply getting tested by a physician or nurse, the patient can discover their oxygen levels, heart rate and brain activity while they sleep. This information is very valuable in determining how serious the problem is and what technique is best for treatment.
One treatment method for sleep apnea insomnia is a pressurized mask that covers the nose. An air pump in the mask forces air into the lungs as the patient breathes in, providing the necessary amount of oxygen and preventing snoring and low-quality sleep. The mask is attached to the face by wrapping around from front to back, with adjustable velcro straps. There are tubes coming from the mask which create the artificial air flow.
Because these air masks are uncomfortable, some patients dislike this method. There are other options, such as prescription medications, breathing treatments and even snoring exercises to increase oxygen supply. There are also multiple brands of breathing strips that can be attached to the outside of the nose to open the airway and reduce oxygen restriction.
While sleep apnea can be difficult to treat, and each patient requires a different method, insomnia can be treated by a few universal techniques:
1) Keep the room's temperature as comfortable as possible
2) Drink water throughout the day (every hour)
3) Stop all work and stressful thoughts at least one hour before bed
By reducing your physical and emotional stress, your insomnia will be eliminated, and the tricks above are simple yet powerful ways of doing so. Anything else that will decrease your stress will reduce your insomnia symptoms.
Be sure to visit your doctor for a sleep apnea test, and eliminate as much stress as possible. Not long after you'll notice an amazing improvement in your energy!
